Here is our Latest Newsletter!
St. Charles German Heritage Club - Newsletter - January 2017
Happy New Years everyone! We are going to start the New Years off right with this newsletter and share all of the great plans for this 2017. First I want to remind everyone - that there is NO meeting in January!
Sadly, we must first share the sad news that with the closing of Stegton's Banquet Center we've had to find a new location for our meetings. Stegton's has been like a home to us for years, with both Susie and Eric always being so supportive. We are really going to miss the great location. We will be having our meetings in the Community Room at the St. Charles Police Department on Zumbehl Road, which is not too distant from Stegton's. They have a very well lit parking lot, easy access, and would take quite a blizzard to close it down. The address is 1781 Zumbehl Road (63303) and is easy to find. If you continue past Stegtons on Hawks Nest till you reach Zumbehl, and then turn west (right) you will see it on your left just opposite the Walgreens. If you should need help a phone number you can call for help is 636-221-1524. We will be meeting there for our February, March and April meetings.
Calendar of Events: Here is the line-up of next years' meetings! All meetings will continue to be the first Wednesday of each month. Our dinners - the Maifest and the Weihnachtsfest will be at a different location that is yet to be determined.
February 1 - A "Fasching" party - we do have a lot of fun with this each year! Love to see all the crazy crazy masks in our group picture. Please feel free to bring the best mask for our contest - but don't wear them in the door.
March 1 - Games! We will share about the Bosseln Game and how the game has come to St. Charles! We will also have several games on hand to play that night! Popcorn and Soda Pop for refreshments.
April 5 - German Customs - Program will be about all of the customs our ancestors brought from the old world that we still have today. Feel free to share any of your own family's customs with others.
May - Maifest Dinner - Date and Location are yet to be determined.
June 10 - possible Bus Tour of the German Heritage Corridor in St. Charles and Warren Counties.
July - NO Meeting
August 2 - Our German Heritage - The story of the German heritage of St. Charles County - where we will share the traveling exhibit of the St. Charles County German Heritage Club. Location TBD
September 6 - Our Annual Summer Picnic - on the St. Charles Riverfront - potluck Bar-B-Que where everyone brings a covered dish or dessert! We supply utensils, plates, drinks and we need your RSVP by the 1st.
October 4 - Oktoberfest Party - what else?! Discussion of the original German Oktoberfest in Germany and all the other "fests" us Germans love. A lot of fun! Location TBD
November 1 - Annual Election - German Trivia - this has become an annual tradition that we all love! Dr. Gary McKiddy will once again try to stump the audience on their knowledge of Germany and its movies, traditions, customs and so forth. No fees - just bring a few friends and join in the fun. Location TBD
December 10 - Weihnachtfest - Time and Location yet to be determined.
